Michael Connelly is perhaps the best writer of police procedurals and detective fiction. Crais is a close second. Crais book "Hostage" was particularly good and made into a movie. Also recommend his books that feature Joe Pike such as "Sentry." Chasing Darkness is a good read but not his best work.
